Did You Know?

The Twee Riviere Slagveld (Two Rivers Battlefield) is located near Modderrivier in the Northern Cape Province, South Africa. It was the site of a skirmish during the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902) on 7 February 1900. The engagement occurred near the confluence of the Modder and Riet Rivers, where Boer forces under General Piet Cronjé attempted to delay the advancing British troops under Lord Methuen after the Battle of Modder River (28 November 1899). The Boers used the terrain to launch a surprise attack on British supply columns, but were eventually forced to retreat due to superior British artillery and numbers. The site is part of the broader Modder River battlefield complex, which includes the Battle of Modder River and the Battle of Magersfontein.
